Onshore Acquisition

We use an integrated High Resolution Electro-Magnetic (HREM) Operations for hydrocarbons exploration.

HREM survey is based on combination of three independent EM techniques:

  • Induced Polarization (IP)

  • Inducted Induced Polarization (IIP)

  • Second Seismo Electric Effect (SSEF)

Induced Polarization 

The standard Operations of the Induced Polarization (IP), aimed on a detection of the hydrocarbons deposit within a play or prospect.

Induced Polarization (IP) Operations is the basic Operations in Mining Geophysics for sulfide zone searching. It based on study of relaxing processes arising in geological medium after putting out an electric field, generated by current supply line. Even a negligible contents of sulfur compounds in sediments (pyrites or chalcopyrites for example) causes significant enlargement of residual rock polarization. This enlargement is surely logged by modern computing devices.

Inducted Induced Polarization (IIP)

Know-how technology TDEM-IIP aimed on detection of hydrocarbons deposit in an area and assessment of its occurrence depth. This invention is covered by patents N93041480 G01V3/08 dated August, 16th, 1993 and 67731 dated July, 2nd, 2007. Authors are  Nebrat A.G., Sochelnikov V.V.

The physical essence of IIP effect consists in the following. As a result of transient process the electric field in the conductive medium after switching a source on or off changes not sharply, and smoothly. The more depth of a layer, the there come changes later. There is an additional source of the induction polarization that leads to its change which in the beginning grows on absolute size, and then in process of attenuation of the additional source decreases. So there is the double induction  polarization DIP. And, the more depth of a polarized layer, the on later times it will be shown this layer in the DIP field

Mathematically characteristic of IIP is represented in integrals of convolution of the transient field characteristic above not polarized medium and the dependence from the induction polarization of specific resistance of layers in time.

Second Seismo Electric Effect (SSEF)

Know-how technology TDEM - SSEF provides an acquisition of EM field data in a time domain.

The result of SSEF Operations is a geo-electrical time sections, that are similar to standard seismic sections.  These sections show the similar resolution as seismic data and could be used for structure interpretation at the very early exploration stage. Second seismoelectrical effect SSEF is caused by transformation known the return seismoelectrical effect arising due to change of an electric field in time in known direct seismoelectrical effect, especially strong on borders so-called formation objects, i.e. on borders of sedimentation breaks. Estimations of size of electric field intensity created by these charges are in good conformity with practical results of measurements.

By means of the second kind oscillations it is possible to receive time geoelectrical sections possessing a lot of attractive properties for application in geophysics: it is small speed - 300 - 500 absence of multiple waves, rather small decrement of attenuation. It is theoretically shown, that the amplitude of a signal is proportional to porosity, also there is a dependence of a signal on permeability.

Borehole  to  Surface Electromagnetic Operations (BTSEM)

Soliton Ltd uses patented technology HREM Borehole-to Surface for  hydrocarbons fields monitoring. 

This Operations allows to study a productive reservoirs with Induced Polarization and Resistivity parameters analysis measured in surface lines around the well.
